Know your Ayurvedic Herbs - VI

Haridra: Its botanical name is Curcuma longa and it is commonly known as haldi or turmeric. In Ayurveda, it is used to treat infections, ulcers, dyspepsia, diabetes, gallstones, skin diseases, conjunctivitis, cysts, endometriosis, dysmenorrhea, fevers, septicaemia, high cholesterol.

Haritaki: Its botanical name is Terminalia chebula. It is commonly known as harde, hara. In Ayurveda it is used for treating constipation, hemorrhoids, eye disorders, dysentery, parasites, hemorrhoids, high cholesterol, coughs, conjunctivitis.

Hingu: Its botanical name is Ferula asafoetida. It is commonly known as asafetida or hing. Its medical uses as per Ayurveda include treatment of flatulence, cough, constipation, palpitations, aphrodisiac, whooping cough, sciatica, convulsions, arthritis.

Isaphgul: Its botanical name is Plantago ovata. It is commonly known as psyllium husk or sat isabgol. In Ayurveda it is used for treating constipation, colitis, irritable bowel, cystitis
